Passionate campaigner for improving care
After witnessing the lack of compassionate and dignified care that her mother, Dame Dorothy Tutin experienced during her treatment for leukaemia, Amanda was determined to make a film that would highlight the need for respect for the elderly. Her award winning, powerfully emotional film ‘What Do You See?’ starring Virginia McKenna, has been used in dignity trainings around the world.
Amanda speaks frequently at conferences and workshops, and sits on many advisory boards.
She has been interviewed by Sir Michael Parkinson and is on the Governments Dignity Board, as well as being an advisor to many groups on how to improve care. Recently she was the Dignity Presenter for Aged care TV. In 2006, Amanda, with the greater London forum, held her own dignity conference. In 2009, Amanda launched the government's dignity in care awards and the elder abuse help line for Southern Cross care homes.
In 2010, Amanda completed three more short films to complement What Do You See?: Home which looks at transitions into care homes, The Big Adventure, which looks at end of life care and spirituality, and NO Regrets, which examines grief and loss.
Amanda has been taking many workshops around the UK exploring the themes of her latest films and her highly acclaimed training pack, which contains 24 new films. Amanda also plans to release her own CD comprised of words and music for the dying, as well as her book "The Heart of Care" for Souvenir Press.
